University
of Massachusetts is one of the most widely recognized universities of
the world and is the largest public university in New England. With
about 111 undergraduates, it offers masters, bachelors and doctorate
degrees in various programs. Otherwise known as UMass, it also excels
in the field of sports such as football and ice hockey. Situated on
1450 acres of land it not only covers Amherst but also a part of the
neighboring town of Hadley.
In-spite
of having one of the housing systems in the campus itself, UMass

are not located onsite. They have to opt for residence available in
the local community around the university. The place has a roommate
program offered by office of Student affairs that is a provision of
the university itself. The campus also has the facility of four
apartments especially for students enrolled in the undergraduate
program and fifty-two residence halls. These are grouped according to
zones that include central, northeast, orchard hill, southwest,
sylvan, north apartments, CHCRC (Commonwealth Honors College
Residential Community. The facilities in these community residences
include cultural centers for recreation, television rooms, dining
room, study area, laundries, social centers and individual kitchens
depending on the type of residence opted.
UMass
med school apartments
can
be chosen from amongst these community houses as well and if not
available then there are various options in the city as well that
provide the students all the necessary amenities required for their
safe and convenient stay. This place also had a 24 hour cafeteria
facility during the first year of its opening; however, after the
management evaluated that it wasn’t profitable enough they ordered
for it to be closed from 1:00 am to 7:00 am. In-spite of this the
university continues to provide their students with the best
facilities that is suited best for them.
